Information we collect

Account information: If you create or sign in to a Naija Speaker account, we receive your name, email address, phone number, and authentication tokens needed to keep you signed in.

Translation content: Text, audio recordings, and files you submit for translation are processed to provide transcripts, translations, and speech playback.

Usage data: We track how many translation credits you have used so we can apply free-tier limits and paid plans fairly.

Device preferences: Settings such as default languages, history saving, auto-play, and privacy toggles are stored locally on your device.

Guest sessions: If you use the app without signing in, a random guest session identifier is generated and sent with API requests so free guest credits can be counted.

How we use your information

We use your information to provide translation, speech-to-text, text-to-speech, account management, and billing services.

We use usage counts to enforce product limits—for example, two free guest translations and two free account credits before purchase is required.

If you opt in to "Help improve models", anonymised samples may be used to improve translation quality. You can turn this off at any time in Settings.

We do not sell your personal information.

Local storage on your device

Translation history, saved phrases, and app preferences may be stored in on-device databases and secure storage.

When Private session is enabled, new translations are not saved to local history.

Clearing app data or uninstalling the app removes locally stored history and preferences from your device.

Third-party processing

Translation and speech services are powered by Naija Speaker infrastructure, including cloud AI providers. Audio and text you submit are transmitted securely over HTTPS for processing.

Payment and account billing for additional credits are handled through naijaspeaker.com when you choose to purchase credits.

Microphone and audio

Voice translation requires microphone permission. Audio is recorded locally, then sent for transcription and translation only when you submit a recording.

Speaker output is used when you choose to listen to translated speech.

Data retention

Server-side logs and translation records are retained only as long as needed to operate the service, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce our terms.

You may request deletion of account-related data by contacting us using the details below.

Your choices

You can use the app as a guest, sign in to an account, disable history saving, enable Private session, and withdraw model-improvement consent in Settings.

You can change default languages, sign out, or delete the app at any time.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the app or on naijaspeaker.com/privacy-policy with an updated date.
